From coastal lunches to countryside escapes, how we spend August as Le Marche locals

August in Le Marche is a celebration of sunshine, flavour and slow living. From vibrant food festivals to peaceful countryside retreats, it’s a season to embrace the simple pleasures that make life here so unforgettable.

Here are some of our favourite ways to live La Dolce Vita…

Quiet escapes in the countryside 🍃

Before the midday heat arrives, the cool shade of the Sibillini Mountains calls. Early morning hikes or leisurely bike rides take you past sunflower fields, olive groves, waterfalls and tiny hilltop villages that have been frozen in time.

If planned right, you’ll be back at home as the sun reaches its peak. Then you can choose your own adventure: celebrate with an early glass of wine (you’re on holiday, who’s counting?), prepare lunch for the family, head to the beach or plan the rest of your day.

Seafood lunches by the sea 🐠

Summer is all about slowing down, and nothing sets the pace like a long, lazy lunch at Koko Beach. Here, the breeze from the Adriatic drifts over plates of the best fish antipasti, fresh mussels, and spaghetti alle vongole, all best enjoyed with a crisp glass of Verdicchio and good company.

The sound of the waves, the smell of the food, and the chatter of locals make it impossible to rush. But then again, why would you want to?

Celebrating the season’s flavours 🍴

From ripe figs and sweet peaches to the daily catch brought in along the coast, every meal feels like a celebration of the region’s natural produce.

One of this month’s highlights is the Festival del Mare in Porto San Giorgio, a ten-day celebration of the region’s maritime traditions. Along the harbour, the scent of frying seafood drifts from the giant padella as locals and visitors gather to share freshly cooked calamari, sardines and other coastal favourites.

Making yourself at home 🗝️

After a day of exploring, you’ll crave the comfort of your Appassionata home before heading out for the evening.

Throw open the windows to let the cooler evening air in, prepare a simple antipasti platter for dinner, and dine al fresco to take advantage of the warm, peaceful night. In August, every moment is unhurried, and every experience becomes part of the life you will always remember.

Evening strolls on the cobblestones 🌛

A stroll through the medieval, cobbled streets naturally leads us to Bar Tre Archi in Petritoli, where a chilled Hugo Spritz and a seat in the piazza offer the perfect spot to watch the evening unfold.

As the night starts to draw in, Petritoli comes alive. Locals and visitors spill into the piazza, children dart between tables, and the sound of music drifts from nearby bars.
