All of Italy wrapped up into one region
Situated in the delightful, undiscovered region Le Marche, Appassionata’s properties nestle gently in mountain hills and perch amongst hilltop retreats.
The region prides itself on being quintessentially Italian, and offers visitors and locals alike everything you would imagine, but unlike some of its more renowned adjacent regions, it still remains one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.
To the east of central Italy, Le Marche compromises five regions, Pesaro, Urbino, Ancona, Macerata, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno, and is bordered in the north by Emilia-Romagna, and in the south, by Abruzzo. Its land rises sharply to the peaks of the Apennines, forming the boundaries with Umbria and Tuscany to the west.
As you become acquainted with this delightful area, you will see its contrasts and get to know what makes it a little bit different from its neighbours. Picture a place where hilltop mountains roll gently down to stunning coastline, with vistas that tease your eyes towards another beautiful, enticing hilltop town. Le Marche is a working region, where generations of families have farmed the land for hundreds of years.
A region brimming with ancient churches, abbeys and monasteries, there’s enough architecture to contemplate here for both enthusiasts and experts alike. Tiny theatres that you could only discover by taking a gentle stroll, the streets and towns are filled with gems, like local artisans, who make their living by crafting things so beautiful that you might want to consider bringing more than just your hand luggage with you.
In the region’s towns, there’s a dazzling array of local cafes, bars and restaurants, each with their own distinct personality, but all sharing something that makes you feel very quickly at home, a genuine, warm, Italian welcome. Whether sitting with a morning croissant and a coffee is your thing, or a leisurely dinner with friends where you can eat and drink delicious, locally sourced food and wine, you can be certain that it’s very easy to relax here.
A visit to the Monti Sibillini National Park, within easy reach from anywhere in Le Marche, opens up the wonders of this mountainous region, and you can choose to walk, cycle, horse ride, and maybe even soar from a hang glider if you wish. As you make your way up into the mountains, you’ll see the farms and vine clad hills that fill every available inch of land, ensuring that this vibrant region continues to thrive and support its inhabitants.
Those same mountains transform during the winter months, and from November to February each year, lovers of snow and ski can experience the joy and freedom of resorts, snow parks and cross-country trails less than an hour away.
If spectacular coastline and beaches are what gets you out of bed in the morning, the Adriatic Coast is a short drive away, with mile after mile of stunning, Blue Flag beaches, many protected by rocky breakwaters. How you spend your day is up to you; for the more active and adventurous, there are watersports, from windsurfing and scuba diving, to fishing and swimming, all you have to decide is which to do first. If you’re more of a perched-up-on-a-stylish-sun-lounger sort of beach-goer, there are many fabulous spots you can choose from, safe in the knowledge that at the end of a warm, sunny day, you can retreat to somewhere you call home.
Of course, it almost goes without saying, that there are literally hundreds of vineyards, olive groves, and truffle plantations to explore, run by small families producing world-class wines and produce.
All you have to decide is which hidden treasure you’d like to discover first, it’s all here, ready whenever you are, and by choosing to share ownership of a home in Italy with Appassionata, you can come back every year, discovering more and more, for the rest of your life.
