Le Marche

Appassionata’s Estate Giacomo Leopardi is located in Montefiore dell’Aso, a delightful hilltop village in the Italian region of Le Marche - click here to visit the Le Marche tourist board website.

One of Italy’s best kept secrets, Le Marche is the easternmost region of central Italy, bordered by Emilia-Romagna to the north and Abruzzo to the south. From the relatively low coastal plains, the land rises sharply to the rugged peaks of the Apennines which form a natural boundary with Umbria and Tuscany to the west.

A remote region of 5 provinces; Pesaro, Urbino, Ancona, Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche has some of the most stunning geographical features in Italy. Here you will find the beautiful Mont Sibillini National Park, stunning Frasassi Caves and 180km of sandy coastline. The area still remains relatively undiscovered by mass tourism and retains a taste of authentic Italy.

In Le Marche, numerous picturesque hilltop villages dot the sparsely populated hills between the coast and mountains. Surrounded by a rich mosaic of farmland and vine clad hills, these charming medieval hilltop villages have breathtaking panoramic views. Remaining unchanged for centuries they are full of ancient Churches, Abbeys and Monasteries. Please see our Le Marche gallery here.

The region boasts one of the highest numbers of blue flag beaches in Italy, and the stunningly beautiful coastal resorts of Pedaso, Grottammare and Porto san Giorgio are less than 30 minutes drive away from Estate Giacomo Leopardi. Many of the coasts’ golden sandy beaches are protected by small rocky breakwaters, making the sun kissed Adriatic waters safe for all the family to swim in. If you fancy something a little more adventurous, why not try some of the various water sport on offer, from sailing to windsurfing, scuba diving to fishing, there’s plenty to do for all ages.

The wild terrain of the Sibillini Mountains not only offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in Italy, but a wide range of activities. From walking, mountaineering, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding through to golf or hand gliding, there’s something for everyone. Between November and February the winter snow arrives and the landscape is transformed so you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Last than an hour away from Estate Giacomo Leopardi, the Sibillini Mountains have numerous ski resorts, snow parks and cross country trails.

Italy is renowned for its wonderful cuisine and the food of Le Marche is no exception. The rustic dishes of the region are assembled using high quality, fresh ingredients often collected from the wild and each area has its own distinctive specialities. The small, family run vineyards of Le Marche not only produce some outstanding red wines, but also some world class white wines. The region’s pride is Verdicchio, a dry white wine with a bitter finish to perfectly complement those popular fish dishes. With its own vineyard, olive groves and a newly planted truffle plantation, Appassionata is not just an ideal destination for your holiday home; it is a chance to explore and own the true taste of Italy for yourself.
